Elderly woman struck and killed by dump truck driver in Davisville Village

An elderly woman was struck and killed by a dump truck driver in Davisville Village on Monday, Toronto police say.

Police were called to the intersection of Davisville Avenue and Mount Pleasant Road shortly after 10:41 a.m.

According to Insp. Jeff Bangild, the initial investigation suggests the woman was crossing Davisville Avenue eastbound, with the signals, when she was hit. The dump truck driver, who had also been travelling eastbound, was making a southbound turn onto Mount Pleasant, Banglid said.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Banglid said police were still trying to identify her.

The truck driver stayed at the scene and is co-operating with investigators, Banglid added.

Anyone with information or dash cam video that could be helpful is asked to contact police.

The intersection was closed for the investigation. Banglid said police hope to have it open by the evening rush hour.

The 74 Mount Pleasant bus was rerouted via Balliol Street, Forman Avenue and Millwood Road to avoid the area, the TTC said.
